Why Illinois Colon CARES?

Imagine waiting months for a colorectal cancer screening and the only available appointment falls between the cracks. Poor communication between the clinic and the hospital make it even more difficult to schedule that appointment and received the follow up procedure report.

ILColonCARES.org is designed to work with clinics and hospitals that are normally disconnected to create a virtual colonoscopy screening navigation website. This portal is designed in the inaugural stage to provide access for vulnerable minority populations that routinely face problems accessing this most needed care. Unfortunately, vulnerable minority populations on Chicago’s South Side, in Cook County and beyond face these problems routinely. As a result, many people suffer unnecessarily from colorectal cancer.

As this program progresses it will be a model for specialty care for all populations in the State and around the country.

Our Future

ILColonCARES.org, is an innovative partnership designed to help health care providers directly schedule colorectal cancer screenings for Cook County residents ages 50 to 75. The web portal, also seeks to enhance communication across health systems and provide timely results to patients and their doctors. As this program progresses it will be a model for specialty care for all populations in the State and around the country.  To date Illinois is on the map and Colorado and Michigan have begun discussions to bring this much needed technology to their States.
